What’s the History of the Victorinix and Wenger Swiss Army Knife?

The original Swiss Army knife came from Ibach, Switzerland. It was first produced in 1891 by Karl Elsener, which later became Victorinox. Wenger is Victorinox’s main competition. It was formed in 1908 after the Swiss government split the Swiss Armed Forces contract between the two companies in order to prevent issues arising from regional favoritism and to help lower the price of the knives.

Wenger was acquired by Victorinox in 2005, but Victorinox decided to keep both consumer brands intact, and Wenger now continues to produce knives as a separate brand. Both brands produce knives that feature a very sharp blade, screwdrivers, can openers, and several other tools which are attached and stowed inside the handle of the knife. A Wenger Swiss Army knife is one of the most recognized tools in the world, famous for its versatility and usefulness.
